Holidays in Italy

Welcome to Bella Italia! Italy offers something for every type of traveller, from rich history and culture to stunning beaches and charming landscapes, all infused with that irresistible Italian charm. With sunny islands, world-famous cuisine, and a favourable climate, you’re in for a treat.

Holiday and “La Dolce Vita”

Listing all of Italy’s highlights is nearly impossible in a short guide. If you’re planning a city trip, Rome—with its Colosseum, Spanish Steps, and St. Peter's Basilica—should top your list. Milan and Florence are also must-visit cities. Exploring the country? Don’t miss the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the romantic canals of Venice.

Naples offers pure Italian zest for life, while the Amalfi Coast enchants with its unique charm. For a secluded beach holiday, Sardinia is perfect. Generally speaking, anywhere you go in Italy will be a highlight.

The top destinations in Italy

Tuscany

Italy is always worth a visit. Tuscany, in central Italy, is a favourite with its rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, and medieval towns.

Cinque Terre

On the northern coast, the “Cinque Terre” are five picturesque villages clinging to the cliffs, connected by beautiful hiking trails and offering stunning views, and are one of the most visited attractions in Italy.

Sardinia

Sardinia is often referred to as the “Caribbean of Europe”. The island captivates with its stunning white sand beaches and sparkling turquoise waters. Its charming coastal towns and peaceful mountains and hills make Sardinia a dream destination for many travellers.

Amalfi Coast

On Italy’s southern coast, the Amalfi Coast captivates with its charming towns and dramatic coastal scenery, famous for its lemon groves.

Dolomites and South Tyrol

If you're drawn to the mountains, the Dolomites and South Tyrol are perfect destinations for your Italian holiday. Despite being in the north, the region enjoys mild temperatures, especially in the valleys. These conditions are ideal for a wonderful hiking holiday.

When is the best time to visit?

Italy is a fantastic destination year-round. The best time to visit depends on your plans. Spring and autumn are perfect for city trips and hiking holidays. For beach lovers, July and August offer ideal conditions, though late summer is also great for enjoying warm seas with fewer crowds, especially around Naples and Sardinia.

Culture, or "Dolce Far Niente"?

Climb Mount Vesuvius

Climbing to the nearly 300-metre-deep crater of Vesuvius is a must if you’re staying near Naples. You can drive up to 1,000 metres before parking and continuing on foot, or join a guided tour. The view from Vesuvius is spectacular, and the lava fields create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Explore the charming coastal villages of Sardinia

The villages in Sardinia are considered some of the most beautiful in Italy. Time seems to stand still here. Take a tour across the island and let the charm of villages like Castelsardo, perched above the Gulf of Asinara, enchant you. Pack a picnic and enjoy.

Breathe in history at ancient sites

In Rome, you’ll encounter ancient history at nearly every turn, with the Colosseum being one of the major highlights. Beyond the capital, Roman culture is pervasive throughout Italy. Particularly impressive is the ancient city of Pompeii, buried after the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79.

Hike in the Dolomites

The Dolomites, with their distinctive peaks, steep cliffs, deep valleys, and clear blue mountain lakes, are some of Italy’s most beautiful mountains. The best way to experience this unique natural landscape is by hiking. The Dolomites also offer plenty for mountain bikers and climbers.

The top beaches in Italy

Cala Goloritze

Located on Sardinia’s east coast, this beach is accessible only by boat or on foot. Its white pebbles, turquoise water, and towering cliffs create a perfect setting for swimming or sunbathing.

La Pelosa

On Sardinia’s northwest coast, La Pelosa features fine white sand and shallow waters, ideal for a relaxing day. The small island offshore makes for a perfect photo.

Chia

On Sardinia’s south coast you will find this picturesque beach. Chia offers fine white sand, turquoise water and the highlight is a beautiful lagoon right by the beach.

Lido Mappatella

If you’re staying near Naples, Lido Mappatella in the Mergellina district offers stunning views of Vesuvius, and you can rent sunbeds at the beach clubs.
